Reminder: Pay Utility Bills to Avoid Shutoffs

If you have a past-due balance on any of your utility bills after March 15, it is crucial to address it immediately to prevent utility shutoffs. Assistance may be available depending on your situation.

Emergency Assistance through OCEAN Inc. for HEAP/USF Applicants:

  • Eligibility: Available for households with a shutoff notice that are either awaiting approval or have been approved for HEAP/USF.
  • When: From March 15 through June 30.
  • Benefits: Offers up to $1,500 for past-due gas bills and $400 for electric bills.
  • Application: Bring your shutoff notice to OCEAN Inc., located at 144 John Street, Lakewood, NJ. Walk-in hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

If your balance with your electric utility is significantly higher than $400 and your HEAP application is pending, we encourage you to bring your electric bill to the LRRC before March 15. We can assist in negotiating a payment plan without a down payment requirement. After March 15, a down payment may be necessary. Please note that setting up a payment plan could affect your eligibility for Emergency Assistance.
