Various governmental and non-governmental assistance programs have very specific requirements for acceptable documentation, such as proof of income and assets. While some require original documents, others will accept notarized copies. It is highly recommended to never submit originals unless mandatory, and that a copy of the original document is kept. Due to many changes in the requirements for proof of identification, the LRRC also recommends that you have available original county health department birth certificates and/or passports for all of your family members.
